Businessman Opens Doors For Small Firms

An entrepreneur from Belfast has set up an online ’shopping centre’ which will let small Ulster businesses show off their wares to customers across the globe at any time of day or night.

Frank McClure’s website, eshopni.com, intends to ensure that small companies which may not have the funds or resources to maintain their own websites can feed a greater consumer base and are able to contribute even more to Northern Ireland’s economy.

He explained to the Belfast Telegraph: “I wanted to be able to do business on the internet, not just put my contact details up.I didn’t feel the investment required to set up my own e-commerce website was justifiable so I went looking for a shopping centre type website, which I was surprised to find didn’t exist for a small business.

“We hope that local businesses see the potential for this site. We have built a virtual shopping centre with empty units just waiting for local retailers to fill with their products,” he said.

“I see it as a gap in the market because at present customers in Northern Ireland are spending ten per cent of their money online, but most of it is going out of the country.”

The emphasis will be on Ulster-based small businesses as opposed to foreign enterprises, as Mr McClure looks to capitalise on the recently-revealed statistic that online spending is escalating by 45 per cent each year.
