The Million Pound Giveaway Kicks Off on ITV

Tuesday night saw ITV launch its latest entrepreneur-orientated programme – titled Fortune: Million Pound Giveaway.

Presented by the ubiquitous Richard Madeley, it can be compared with the BBC’s Dragon’s Den to a degree in that it sees various budding entrepreneurs appear over seven weeks before a range of high-profile businesspeople to try and win a million pounds of their money.

The panel consists of MOBO award founder Kanya King, outspoken Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan, Ann Summers managing director Jacqueline Gold, Duncan Bannatyne – of Dragon’s Den fame – and former MP Jeffrey Archer.

The entrepreneurs have a minute each to persuade the panel that their scheme will benefit the wider community and merit the million-pound pot. They will either see approved or completely denied their reward on the spot.

A quote from Lord Archer, released last year by ITV, gives an insight into what he will be looking for in the show’s contestants.

He said: “I have long believed that energy is a talent. If you have talent and energy, you will be a king.”

ITV’s appeal for participants read: “There are no strings attached as long as your heartfelt desire is genuine and honest!” – and it seems that this kind of raw passion is being targeted in particular by the show.
