Businessmen Wins Welsh Entrepreneur Award September 25

A company director who entered the world of business aged just 14 has been awarded the accolade of top entrepreneur in Wales.

James Norvill of Newport has presided over the rise of GD Environmental into a £1.6 million enterprise, having taken up his current role in 2003. The firm’s turnover has trebled over two years and aims to achieve a turnover of £6 million by 2009.

He instigated the company’s growth by diversifying its operations into recycling and construction along with its main interest in draining � and new waste transfer stations in Cardiff and Monmouthshire should facilitate his ambitions to continue its rise to prominence.

Mr Norvill collected his British Chamber of Commerce Welsh Entrepreneur of the Year award and told the Western Mail: “As someone who started work at 14 to make money, it is great to be recognised in this way. I always aim to kick on into the future to maintain our ambitious growth plans.

“This will include an acquisition programme of purchasing new land and extending our services in order to establish GD Environmental as one of the UK’s leading companies the waste disposal industry.”

He was praised by Welsh Secretary Peter Hain for his enterprising spirit, which the government minister said should prove an inspiration to other young businesspeople.
