Vodafone and MySpace Reveal Link-Up

Mobile phone giant Vodafone has announced a temporary link up with social-networking website MySpace in a move which could see both firms reap dividends.

While Vodafone hopes the affiliation will encourage customers to use their mobile phones as a way of accessing the internet, MySpace is using the tie as a way of creating awareness of its product in Europe.

The “marriage” will apparently last for less than a year, with MySpace in particular keen to ensure that the partnership is only a temporary measure as it plans to offer its service to all mobile phone users in the near future.

Vodafone users will now be able to blog, upload photos and chat to MySpace friends using their mobiles.

The UK-based company has recently announced similar agreements with eBay, YouTube and Google Maps.

“Here in Europe, we are leading the parade on 3G,” said Vodafone’s CEO Arun Sarin.

MySpace is based in Santa Monica, California, and is the third most popular website in the US and the sixth most popular website in the world.

The UK version of MySpace was launched in January 2006.
