Dragon’s Den ‘Blown Away’ by Oxford Student’s Pitch

Oxford student Thomas Whitfield’s proposal to create an “online timeline” has received the full backing of the notoriously hard-to-please panel of Dragon’s Den.

The judges were “blown away” by Mr Whitfield’s idea, the premise of which involves creating a website with a virtual timeline that details not only the past but also has space to record future events.

Users will be able to “buy” minutes of history and document details of their own lives for posterity.

Mr Whitfield, 25, a PhD biochemistry student at Christ Church college, hit upon the idea while out drinking with a friend in a hotel lobby while on a residential course.

He and Karl Heinz Toni, 25, a computer science graduate, soon recruited Richard Schreiber, also 25, before they pitched the idea to experts on the BBC programme.

It is predicted that all three men will be multi-millionaires by the time they are 30.

A prototype of the website is already up and running at www.designthetime.com.

The idea is similar to the Million Dollar Homepage website, where pixels of a computer picture were sold by a student for $1 each to businessmen keen to display their profiles and images on the web.
